Abstract

The year-on-year (y-on-y) inflation rate in May 2023 was 4.00 percent, with a Consumer Price Index (CPI) of 114.84. The highest inflation saw in Kotabaru and Timika at 6.04 percent each with CPI of 121.80 and 117.74, respectively, while the lowest saw in Pangkal Pinang at 1.93 percent with a CPI of 114.16.
Inflation occurred as the prices went up, as indicated by the increase in most of the expenditure groups indices, namely: Food, Beverages, and Tobacco Group of 4.27 percent; Clothing and Footwear Group of 1.54 percent; Housing, Water, Electricity, and Household Fuel Group of 2.48 percent; Furnishings, Household Equipment, and Routine Household Maintenance Group of 3.03 percent; Health Group of 2.52 percent; Transport Group of 10.62 percent; Recreation, Sport, and Culture Group of 2.18 percent; Education Group of 2.75 percent; Food and Beverage Serving Services/Restaurant Group of 3.38 percent; and Personal Care and Other Services Group of 4.48 percent. On the other hand, Information, Communication, and Financial Services Group recorded a deflation of 0.27 percent.
The month-to-month (m-to-m) inflation rate in May 2023 was 0.09 percent, and the year-to-date (y-to-d) inflation in May 2023 was 1.10 percent.
For the Core Component, the y-on-y inflation rate in May 2023 was 2.66 percent, the m-to-m inflation rate was 0.06 percent, and the y-to-d inflation rate was 0.94 percent.
