Abstract

A. Tourism Progress

  • In the second month of 2023, international visitor arrivals in Indonesia were 701.93 thousand. Even though the number of arrivals decreased by 4.62 percent compared to the previous month, the recovery of the tourism sector was seen from the increase in international visitor arrivals compared to the previous year (year-on-year), at 567.27 percent. This increase was in line with the control of the COVID-19 pandemic and the repeal of the Level-I Enforcement of Community Activity Restrictions (PPKM). Malaysia (18.10 percent) and Australia (12.08 percent) dominated the number of international visitors to Indonesia in February 2023.
  • Cumulatively, the international visitor arrivals from January to February 2023 also increased by 532.94 percent compared to the same period in 2022. This increase in international visitors was mainly recorded from the gates of Ngurah Rai and Soekarno Hatta airports, which increased by 49,949.96 percent and 716.85, respectively.
  • The upturn in tourism activity was also recorded from the room occupancy rate in February 2023. The room occupancy rate of classified hotels was 47.83 percent, increased by 9.29 percentage points (year-on-year), and increased by 2.97 percentage points (month-to-month). Likewise, the room occupancy rate of non-classified hotels was 22.67 percent, increased by 1.26 percentage points (year-on-year), and increased by 0.53 percentage points (month-to-month). Even so, it should be noted that the average length of stay at classified hotels has stayed the same as the previous year, at 1.63 days.

B. Growth of National Transport

  • The number of domestic air transport passengers departing in February 2023 was 4.4 million or decreased by 11.04 percent compared to January 2023. The number of international air transport passengers decreased by 4.40 percent to 1.1 million. From January to February 2023, the number of domestic air transport passengers was 9.3 million and increased by 38.09 percent. The number of international air transport passengers was 2.2 million and increased by 1,063.25 percent compared to the same period in 2022.
  • The number of domestic sea transport passengers departing in February 2023 was recorded at 1.3 million, decreasing by 15.17 percent compared to January 2023. The freight transported by domestic sea transport decreased by 1.25 percent, turning 27.5 million tons. From January to February 2023, the number of domestic sea transport passengers reached 2.9 million and increased by 14.44 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, freight increased by 8.67 percent, reaching 55.3 million tons.
  • The number of railway passengers departing in February 2023 was 26.3 million people, which decreased by 9.50 percent compared to January 2023. Furthermore, the freight transported by train decreased by 6.08 percent to 5.1 million tons. The number of passengers reached 55.3 million from January to February 2023 and increased by 79.44 percent compared to the same period in 2022. Meanwhile, the cumulative freight transported by train rose by 25.30 percent to 10.5 million tons.
